Issue 015 Artificially Flavored Design
An apparent gap between issues

We’re finally back on track again and have managed to release another issue despite all the drama that has come into my life over the last six months. There has been some good news though in spite of the impending feeling of world collapse. We’ve welcomed Karen Ingram onto the staff this issue and can’t be happier with what she has contributed. She’ll be taking care of the “New Releases” section and hopefully the occasional interview — she doesn’t know this yet.

We really dig feedback and finding new talent, so get in touch — Jarrett

Other News & Notes
The title for this month’s cover is “We Feel Nothing” brought to us by the mind-numbingly creative, Mr. Paul Drohan of D5ive, Juxt Interactive, and NewsToday fame. According to Paul, the illustration reflects back on “childhood blissfulness, with a bit of distortion” and is an effort to push his illustration skills and concepts into new areas. Much thanks for his time.

YouWorkForThem

The Mike’s (Cina and Young) are going to start thinking I have a man-crush on them, but their Internet storefront, YouWorkforThem (YWFT) is a well-designed model of efficiency, about which I can’t say enough good things. Their great selection of hard-to-find design and art related books, posters, typefaces, clothing and multimedia ephemera have left me with no choice but to look there first.

Window Dressing

Kenneth Cole’s in-house design team created an engaging window display for their “Help Address the Homeless” campaign this past winter across all of their Manhattan stores. A simple gothic typeface (Trade Gothic?) printed on hanging, torn pieces of cardboard made a blunt association with one of the sadder realities of being homeless, but also created a memorable campaign — hopefully one you’ll take with you next time you clean out the closet.

Thoughts or comments on this campaign are definitely welcome as is any information on the creative team behind this work.

We are looking: If you come across a creative window display or anything of typographic/design interest on the street, send it our way. We’re going to try and feature at least one standout display every issue.
